Where: CHS Room 233
When: Every Tuesday at lunch
Who: Any CHS Student Interested
What: The goals of Green Club are twofold: to help students learn about sustainability and to encourage students to apply what they learn to improve their school and their community. Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from professionals in the Helena area involved in renewable energy, recycling, and other sustainable practices. They will be encouraged to get involved around the school in promoting recycling, reducing waste, and saving money!
Competitions:
Students will have the opportunity, if they choose, to apply what they’ve learned to regional and national sustainability competitions such as the Imagine Tomorrow competition, the Siemens We Can Change The World Challenge, or the Montana Green Schools Challenge. From the Imagine Tomorrow website:
Imagine Tomorrow challenges 9th through 12th graders to seek new ways to support the transition to alternative energy sources. Students research complex topics related to renewable energy, then innovate technologies, designs, or plans to mobilize behavior. They forge connections in their communities and create positive change. In this energy competition, as in life, solutions are limited only by imagination.- http://imagine.wsu.edu/
This competition offers cash prizes for winners in each of four different categories: Design, Biofuels, Technology, and Behavior. First place is $1000 for each student team member and $5000 for their school!
