Capital High School honors those students who go beyond the required course load for graduation by taking honors, Advanced Placement and accelerated college preparation classes while maintaining a 3.5 grade point average. The Bruin Educational Achievement Recognition (B.E.A.R.) is awarded to graduating seniors who have achieved the following:
- Taken 10 or more honors, Advanced Placement, and/or accelerated credits receiving a minimum of a B letter grade (after 8th semester)
- Earned at least 7 of the 10 credits in following core departments: English, Math, Social Studies, Science, or Foreign Language.
- Taken all required classes necessary for graduation
- Graduate with a minimum of 26 credits
- At the time of graduation have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5
- No outstanding past or current disciplinary problems determined at the discretion of the Helena School Board through the day of graduation
- Involved in at least 2 school related activities
- Complete application for the B.E.A.R. award fall of senior year
