The English department at Capital High School is the largest department in the school since every student gets to take four years of English. The English curriculum covers various aspects, including reading literature, reading informational texts, language (grammar), speaking and listening, and writing of various types – focusing on argumentative, informational, and narrative modes. Preparing students to be college and career ready is the goal of the English department, and the department members take this seriously. By the time they graduate, students will be exposed to a wide variety of literature, both fiction and nonfiction, and hopefully they will leave Capital High School with an appreciation of the English language, good writing skills, and a love for literature.
