English at the freshman level explores the genres of mythology (including The Odyssey), non-fiction, novel, and drama (i.e. Romeo and Juliet).  The emphasis in composition is on argumentative analysis and process writing.  Vocabulary development, library orientation, speaking, listening, and study skills are also included.
