7230 Welding 1

7230    Welding 1

This introductory technical welding course is designed to build strong foundational skills, with a primary focus on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Students will also gain hands-on experience with additional processes, including Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Plasma Arc Cutting, and Oxy-Acetylene Cutting. In addition to welding processes, students will be introduced to manual machining, basic metallurgy, metal fabrication techniques, CNC plasma cutting, and an entry-level overview of Mastercam software to support project design and fabrication. Throughout the course, students will complete assigned weld coupons, cutting exercises, and at least one full fabrication project each semester. During the second semester, students will prepare for future AWS certifications by completing a 7018 open V-groove 1G weld test, including performing their own bend tests.

Note: Students who do not successfully complete the first semester will participate in a conference to evaluate readiness and eligibility for enrollment in the second semester.
