5210    French 1

French 1 is the beginning course of a four year program. Students begin to develop the four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and to learn specific techniques to facilitate acquisition of a second language. Emphasis is on acquiring such basic learning skills as following directions, listening actively, participating in drills, memorizing and retaining vocabulary. Spending out-of-class time each day orally studying French is highly encouraged.  French 1 also introduces students to the culture, geography, and history of France.  Students assume responsibility for their own learning through independent study and self-tests.
