2440    World History

This class is designed to be taken as either a single semester or a full year. The first semester will delve into the roots of human history, exploring pre-history to around 1500 CE. The class will examine the rise and fall of ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, and China, while also unraveling the complexities of the Middle Ages, the Arab World, the Crusades, the Mongols, and the Renaissance. The second semester will navigate the dynamic period from the 16th to the 20th century. The focus is on global events such as Exploration, the Chinese and Indian Empires, the Scientific Revolution, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Colonization, both World Wars, and the intricacies of the Cold War. Throughout both semesters, emphasis will be placed on understanding historical contexts through lectures, discussions, projects, and presentations, fostering a comprehensive grasp of the world’s intricate tapestry.
