4300    Biology 2

Biology 2 is a third-year science course offered to any sophomore, junior, or senior student who has passed Biology 1 or Biology 1 Honors with a C or better and has either completed a physical science course or is concurrently enrolled in a physical science course along with Biology 2. Biology 2 emphasizes the application of biological science topics including forest ecology, wildlife biology, genetics, embryology, histology, and anatomy. The first semester focuses on field study and laboratory experiences in forestry and fire ecology. Semester 1 includes at least one field trip for forestry and fire ecology. The second semester focuses on genetics, embryology, histology, and vertebrate mammal anatomy. At the end of semester 2 there is an in-depth cat dissection project. Although this is a year-long course, students will be able to enter in the 2nd semester separately from semester 1 if they have met the prerequisites. There is a course fee of $30. Students must also meet the prerequisites of passing Biology 1 or Biology 1 Honors with a C or better along with the completion of a physical science course prior to or concurrently enrolled in along with Biology 2.
